What worked best for your baby to sleep in?

I am trying to figure out what would be best to purchase for the baby to sleep in when it is first born. I have plenty of space in our room so it is really a matter of what works best. I could use a cradle, bassinet, playpen, arms reach co-sleeper, or moses basket. What worked best for you? What was the easiest to change sheets on and the most comfortable for baby?

Are you going to breast feed or Bottle Feed.
As a breast feeding mom, I got a bassinet, cradle, co-sleeper in one. It was great because the baby slept right next to the bed and i could reach over and pick him up into bed with me to feed him. I also liked to hold my baby’s hand when he went to sleep. it had a electric mobile and light and music on it which really helped. it wasn’t that expensive either. As for the sheets I would get a sheet saver they come two in a package and are great I use these and I have not had to change the sheets for a baby accident yet.

co-sleeper hands down. The baby is within a moments reach and is really great for breastfeeding.

A co-sleeper is nice for the newborn period, but after that, just throw your own mattress on the floor.

Night wakings and nursings are much easier, and you get a happier baby; absolutely no nighttime crying, here.

I’m actually not sure how using a crib works. It looks like a pain. Here, we just lie down on the mattress, cuddle baby to sleep, and if we’re not going to bed, roll away. Nice for baby, nice for Mummy or Daddy.

Google "safe co-sleeping"; properly done, it is protective against SIDS.

Another great point I can still use it as a changing table.

Truthfully, when my daughter was born, she *hated* to lay flat on her back. Therefore, she slept in her bouncy seat (placed in a playpen) until she was around 2 months old, and was starting to roll unto her side.
Then, we just basically started co-sleeping. It’s super easy, we both get a good night’s sleep, and her sheets get changed when mine do…(hehe)

Since you have enough room, just get anything that YOU will feel comfortable putting baby in.

We had her room right next to ours, and put her straight in her cot, but inside a baby carrier insert, to make her feel more "cuddled up". That way we didn’t need to worry about bassinettes etc, and she was used to being in a cot from the start. My biggest advice would be to swaddle the baby in a light blanket, tucking their arms in, before you put them down to sleep, as they love being wrapped up, and sleep a lot better. I had no problems getting up in the night to breastfeed, as she was just in the next room, and I had a comfy chair in there to sit on to do it. We are doing the same again for the next one.

    Good luck with it!

lets see with our first baby, she slept in a bassinet, on her belly since that was the only way that she would sleep. our 2nd baby was in the bassinet, and our 3rd baby slept in the swing! so if we has more room in our bedroom than what we do i would go with a pak n play with the bassinet on it. this way you get the full use out of the bassinet and then you also have it when they get bigger and most of them have a changing table on them so thats one less thing you have to buy.

CO-sleeper, or you could put the crib in your room right near your bed with one side down so its even with bed….no blankets/stuffed animals or bumper pads though.

Basinette for flexibility of location and swaddling combination was the sure winner for me up till about 3 months.
