Where is the best place for technical writers?

I am doing some research for when I graduate this fall. I am planning on attending grad school, but of course, I will need a job while I’m going. Where are some of the best places for technical writers and what places (publications, web sites, etc.) are the best to work for?
For the record, I’ve worked as a technical writer for two years at my university. I am much more qualified than most of the staff with "more experience".

If you want to pursue a career in technical writing, then you may want to enroll for a M.S. program in Technical Communication.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2008-09 Edition , the “Opportunities should be best for technical writers and those with training in a specialized field.” (Source: bls.gov/oco/ocos089.htm#outlook)

Since you’ve experience in technical writing, you may want to work as freelance technical writer. Interested? Find more info at:

  1. >"places"

The ones that will hire (pay) you!

    >" I will need a job while I’m going"

Take a number, and wait in line, behind the folks with experience.

  2. with the attitude posted under "additional details", hopefully it’ll take you awhile to find something until you can chill out. people aren’t going to be willing to help you unless you realize that you can learn things pretty much everywhere, despite what you, an undergrad, deem their experience level is.

that said, the defense and medical industries are where it’s at in technical writing. electronics and engineering are taking a backseat. so, where ever things are booming in those industries.
