I need to know how to have the best, safest Saint Bernard-sized whelping box possible. Can you buy them or is it best to build one? And what are the best measurements to follow? Thanks for your help in advance.

Measure your female from neck to flank. Add about 6 inches to accommodate the rails - if you want 4 inch rails, add 8 inches. The sides should be at least 10 inches high, while the measurement you took from your girl plus the railing, is what you want - squared into a box.

As she has long legs, you can take some hollow pvc pipe, cut it down the middle, and put over the tops of the sides so she won’t scrape herself getting out. This pvc also works to keep the puppies in, after they have their eyes, and can see that there’s something out there other than their brothers/sisters.

You can use pvc board (you’ll then end up with a 12 inch side, which is fine, too). Hinge it on the inside, add your rails about 4 inches from the bottom, and voila! you have an easy to clean and store whelping box.

The cleaner you should use is 1 OUNCE Chlorox to 1 gallon of water. When it comes to cleaning/disinfecting, more is not better - it can burn the animals it comes into contact with. This dilution is used in hospitals to kill molds, viruses (including HIV) and bacteria. Don’t spend a lot of cash on trying to make a better mousetrap.

You have to provide the pups with a source of warmth. I just got a piglet warmer from Farmtek it works really, really well. But until I got it, I used a heat lamp - and I’ve been breeding since 1983. The pups move in and out of the heat as needed.

Good luck whelping.
The box will last you years.

I am coming from a community college and want to transfer to a four-year college with a major in economics. I want to know which colleges are best known for their economic program? What is the best University of California campus for economics? What about the best private university?

The best UC schools for econ would be UC Berkeley and UCLA, with Davis a close third.
Other great universities for economics: Amherst, Babson, Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown, George Washington, Northwestern U, Rice, UNC Chapel Hill, Williams…

If you could help me out with this I’d be very grateful indeed. I am classical pianist, age 27. I’ve done an undergraduate course at Bath Spa University College, but now I want to find the best place possible to train me for becoming the best pianist in the world (yeh, really!). I’ve heard that the Julliard School of Music in New York is one of the best in the world. Maybe I should go there?

You are unfortunately many years too late. Really gifted pianists would have been studying at the Royal College or Royal Academy in London from a young age. A degree from a polytechnic counts for nothing.

By best I mean the best comfort and the best price FOR the comfort. Are Acuvue Oasis or Hydraclear contacts good? I might be getting contacts soon and I want to make sure so my eye care doctor won’t try to sell me a expensive brand that’s not worth the money.

I don’t have any complications and I’m nearsighted.

Acuvue is a good brand. Oasis is supposed to be the better kind with the Hydraclear included. My sister likes those kind. My optician let me tried CIBA Vision’s Optix O2 and I like that one. My sister thought that those made her feel uncomfortable, so she stuck with Oasis. Make sure you get one that allows more oxygen like the ones i mentioned above. There are certainly other brands. Contacts are not really cheap, and it depends how much he charges for the contacts. Those two are average prices. Ask your doctor for your prescription on the contacts that you can take with you. If he/she asks you why all you need to say is that so you have it. You can try the one he gives you and if you do not like it ask if you can try a different because it gives you an uncomfortable feeling. Once you have settled on 1 type, you do not need to buy it right away(they don’t really suggest you to do so either)…check out the prices at the office. If you think that they are out of your budget range then go look at the price at a place like Costco or any other place with optometry(sears…and etc.). They usually have the same ones that you were prescribed. With that prescription that you asked your eye doc. you can get it at any other place you wish to do so.
Avoid buying them online because they are usually more expensive than the doctor’s office.

*Note: if you do not get it at the eye doc. office, then the quality of the contact might have a slight difference.

Good luck! Hope this helps!

Any of you that weigh yourself all the time, know which scale is the best to use at home? I have one of the old fashioned kind that is not digital. It always shows a different weight and i dont think its always accurate. I know a digital would probably be best. But which ones are the best?

digital scales are good but if you really want an accurate reading, i suggest you go into your local store [eg. boots, superdrug] and weigh yourself on one of their machines. That way, you can go in weekly/fortnightly etc if you want to monitor your weight and you can usually get a print-out of your weight too :]

I was looking into the "Gel G Seat Comfort Cusion GSeat Orthopedic" cushion. It is expensive, so I assume it should provide the best relief. Do you have any opinions on this cushion? I have a donut cushion but is very uncomfortable in design, and embarrasing. What is the best type design for hemorrhoid sufferers?

Why do you not just get the hemorrhoid’s removed and be done with it? Best of Luck

Ive wanted to learn how to play the guitar for a really long time now and was wondering what are the best ways to learn how to play without getting lessons (its hard for me to get around) and wanted to know what are the best guitars to learn on? Like brand and what type?

And yes I know this is the wrong section.

Okay. you can get a teacher or you can self teach. a teacher would be easier but self teaching would be cheaper. If you want to self teach i would just buy a bunch of guitar books or i would go online for websites with chords and grafts and stuff. unless you already know how to read music i wouldn’t bother. unless you wanna be like a really serious guitar player your not going to need it. if i were you i would read tabs. Tabs are like music its like a big picture of the guitar and it shows you were to put your fingers. i can give you some good websites for that also. if you wanted to get a guitar i would either get an epiphone acoustic or a fender strat pack that comes with a fender strat a gig bag a tuner a small amp and some pics its also not very pricey and the guitars amazing. OK here are some websites for tabs=) below in the sources .

I am going to 2009 derby and want to know a little about the best way to maximize my experience. Where is the best place (bargain wise) to watch the race live. Where to stay when coming in town from Nashville? How early to get there race day? Is the infield the best place to be for a racing and wagering fan?

I am posting a link that will give you some information on tickets, where to stay, etc. I am in Franklin, so I am familiar with the route you will take. Every year about 150,000 people attend the Derby and most of the good tickets are far gone by now. You can call Churchill downs office and talk with them about tickets if you like.
If you go to the infield you will not be able to see the race. There are many obstructions preventing the view of the track there. I would advise you to get there early, even though the race is late in the day. There is much to see and a lot of excitement. Since I don’t know how old you are I will tell you that the infield is mostly college age people and they are there for a party. Lots of drinking, etc. Have a great time at the Derby

I think it is best that twins share a crib until about 4-5 months of age and then should sleep in separate cribs but still in the same room. Also, I know around 2 is when they begin sleeping in a bed. What is the best age for them to begin having their own rooms? Btw, both bedrooms are very small–not large enough for 2 beds. So, they must separate between the ages of 4 months and 2 years–when is best?

My doctor said that we should do it know or before 6 months of age. Transitional periods are way easier now, rather than later when they develop personalities and can oppose the change. My boys love sleeping together so I am having trouble with separating them now. My plan is to wait a few months and have them share a crib (they are in a play pen now). Other piece of advise, they can stay together until they are psychically impeding each others sleep.
