And for those who own a GM/Chrysler vehicle, have you heard of Consumer Reports and all the bad stuff it has on them.

will not buy a car until I look it up on Consumer Reports

I just want to look at these three cars on consumer reports, and I don’t want to buy a subscription to look at three pages. would anyone be willing to look these up for me and copy/paste the review into the answer? I don’t know if points actually motivate anyone, but, I’ll give best answer to the person with the best answer, haha.

As a TDI owner I’ll say this, these are very finicky cars. If they’re cared for properly, they’re absolutely bulletproof. There are a couple on the verge of a million miles, with a ton over 400,000 miles. Stay far far far away from the automatics from 99.5-03 though. The 01M is not a good trans for any engine, but is especially week when mated to the torquey diesel.

But if someone forgets a timing belt change, or does some improper maintenance, forget it, they’ll have problems until the day you sell it.

I really would suggest finding someone in your area who knows TDIs and having them look the car over before purchasing one. You can find more info than you’d ever want to know on the car at http://www.tdiclub.com including a list of the trusted "gurus" across the US and Canada, thats the list you wanna pick your expert to look the car over from.

they review competing products and provide very good analysis and comparisons. if you favor price over features or need a specific feature it is a good place to start the research.

from a time standpoint focus on the high end (autos, appliances, etc) but they cover a lot of different product areas. its like $6 for a month to try it out

Can someone provide me a list of the best laptops (both brand and model name) for under $600 for Consumer Reports 2009 report? I’m looking for a computer for high school. Do you have any opinions as well on what a great laptop is?

Apple Laptops are always rated best by consumer reports, but new ones are out of your price range.

I’d recommend looking on ebay for Mac laptop under $600. Life is too short to be running Windows.

Here is an ebay search for all Apple laptops in your price range:

Here is the least expensive laptop I could find on Apple’s website:

I find it very suspect that Hankooks are rated number 2, and tops in winter handling on Consumer Reports. I can’t link it because you need a membership to view the report.. but does anyone else find this odd? or even suspect? Would you trust this review?
It rated number 2 in category: All Seasons.

*Anyone* who claims they are unbiased is a Liar.

Comsumer Reports base a lot of their ratings on self-selected surveys of their readership. They have done reviews on pairs of cars, built by the same company and same people on the same assembly line, one Japanese badged, one rebadged to an American company — with the American badged version failing. Due to their biased methods.

Car magazines found the Samurai to be an excelent vehicle. Consumer Reports did a 1988 article that killed the Suzuki Samurai. Word was that some exec didn’t like the little car and told the staff to make it fail.

I have zero respect for anything published by the C.U..

The overall reliability seems to be in question, especially for the MB SL500 and other Mercedes. BMW doesn’t fair too badly, but bad enough — fair grades for the 650 & 750’s. What gives??

German cars are known for electrical problems. Both are better than VW/Audi but nothing great still.

Luxury cars usually are full of new sensors and gadgets. Any time you use new technology you run a risk of it having some bugs.

Consumer Reports isn’t the most accurate ratings out there. For years they automatically gave Toyota a good rating without even testing them many of them. They changed that this year because of Toyota’s ongoing quality issues on newer vehicles. Its very likely they do the same with other makes.

Check out JD Power ratings.

and consumer reports gave it a poor side impact (lowest) who is telling a fib here???

definately would not go with consumer reports, the government isn’t nearly as biased as a business

in order of best first. thanks
Library? I thought that YA made libraries things of the past :) –and thanks

For large rooms - Danby DDR606

For medium rooms LG LHD45EL

For small rooms Haier HD306

I don’t have time to type in all 17 models. You can find the information at your local library if you are interested.

Just curious if anyone has access online or has the book for 2006 (I’ve not a clue if 2007 is out, prolly at the end of next year) to find out the info on what Consumer Reports say about the Mazda3 4door. Usually they give stuff like "it’s good for this, but only thing found wrong is this." That’s kinda what I’m looking for…besides it’s overall rating as everythings good or what needs work…all that good stuff. Can anyone help? Please be specific. Thanks! :) And acutually I doubt someone can find the info for the new 2007 Mazda3 but for the 2006…it would be nice to know.

The only thing bad thing that’s been brought up year after year about the Mazda 3 is the small trunk. I own one and fit four sets of golf clubs and a large backpack in mine with four passengers in the car. Don’t worry about the trunk and the only other downthing I can find compared to its competitor is that it doesn’t get quite as good MPG. However, it is soooo much more fun to drive that it’s worth it. See the following report from Edmunds.
