What is the best way to compare a mean score against a national average?

I want to compare a mean score for one academic year against the national average for that year. I have data for four years and what to compare each set of data against the national average for that year. I just want to see if the difference between the mean score and the national average is significant for each year.

Please help me!!!!!!!!!!!

they are both mean scores so you can just look at them and see which is better
to see if the difference is significant, the easy way is to find the standard deviation of the national figure and see if your score is within one or two standard deviations
you could get very clever and run a significance test

  1. Howard L says:

The mean is the middle score. 1/2 of the scores are higher and 1/2 are lower. The average is the sum of all scores totaled up divided by the number of scores.
