Metroid Prime comparisons GC vs Wii: Missing Effects

i made a vid with the missing water and beam effects that were mentioned in some sites and forums. i didn’t believe at first but when i compared side by side i noticed them. it’s fun since i hadn’t noticed that in february when i played the game initially and only noticed when people pointed it out (thanks guys :( )

also, i show a glitch with the power beam’s charge shot and the rapid fire missile trick in both versions.

Ah well. I’d trade minor particle physics for wii controls any day.

  4. SpiffyBacon says:

    Actually it’s …
Actually it’s opposite. He’s showing that the effects that were in the gc version aren’t on the wii version.

Guess I will not be buying Metroid Trilogy.

    Ok let me rephrase, …
Ok let me rephrase, the effects on the beams were what made the GRAPHICS in Metroid Prime awesome in the first place.

I refuse to jump in …
I refuse to jump in a lake. Mario is a staple yes, but one which I view as slimy blast of wank circling the shower drain. Only fanboys (such as yourself, the clingy comlaining dipshits) wouldbe offended by my comment and try to defend Mario to the death on forums and such. I’m sick of arguing with people like you, from now on I’m just going to ignore you to death.

    thats cool they …
thats cool they added effects to the wii version the gc version doesnt have

    So no one really …
So no one really truly knows the reason why these effects were removed, right? So far the most popular answers are “laziness” “time constraints” or “Graphical limitations of the Wii”…

  10. dark7000 says:

    I think the water …
I think the water effects are missing cause of the different engine. They put the games completely in the “corruption-engine” and there is just no water effect…

    …they did not “forget it”

  11. Rodriguezjr says:

    Yeah, at first I …
Yeah, at first I didn’t notice the changes at first until I read about them. But, oh well, everything else still looks the same a bit better due to some of the bloom lighting enhancements and textures.

Oddly, Prime 2 still has those beam particles as you charge your shots.

I love this game on …
I love this game on Gamecube, and I love this game on the Wii even more. That’s good to point those effects, but stop spoiling your life for 2 drops of water and “cool” effects on the gun.

  13. GrandHighGamer says:

    As several people …
As several people have said, it’s likely that the beam effects worked on a 2D plane, and with the new movable cannon would have had to have been made 3D and been more processor intensive so they just removed them (live with it). The water ripples may have just been removed to make the morph ball more visible.

    I’ll take improved …
I’ll take improved Wii Remote controls over some graphic effects I would not have noticed if I hadn’t seen the video.

  15. vb4You says:

    It’s probably the …
    It’s probably the following reason:
The port costs money. Nintendo is ting money at the moment because they grew to hate their customers. When porting the game, they noticed that it started lagging because of bloom + charge beam effects + the new weapon animation, causing them to decide to take the lazy route, removing the effects. Or it could have been that they simply forgot. As Zelda TP has shown, this is completely possible. (That game had some design errors seemingly due to confusion…

Whilst I agree that gameplay is a very important factor in the product, it is not the be all and end all – immersion matters as well.

    Also wanted to add …
Also wanted to add that if people want something more worth griping about… it’s sadder that each games unique intro/menu was not somehow put in Trilogy. Instead each game is launched by a a generic Samus shooting sequence.

Mind you then again the new intro and menu fit the trilogy and allow seamless access to all 3 games. On the topic of comparisons though… it’s nice to see how rigid the original GCN controls were in comparison to the fluid IR aiming on the Wii. So happy about that.

  22. Lint22 says:

    Sad that those beam …
Sad that those beam details were for some reason left out. My guess though is it’s related to new visual effects… specifically the bloom lighting.

As instead now each gun emits that bloom lighting from the gaps of each beam cannon gun.

In either case anyone who is griping over this honestly needs to get their head checked as overall this doesn’t affect gameplay in the slightest. Also I bet a lot of people never noticed these effects were missing until someone pointed it out.

  23. insainlysmart says:

    no it just …
no it just conveniant to have all 3 on a disc i said that merely to point out the plus and that people should not fuss over the tiniest of details that no1 is going to noptice unless they sit there which some sad lifes have done….

  24. ShakinJamacian says:

    I can understand …
I can understand some of the gun effects being altered due to them using the gun model/animation from Prime 3 for all 3 games, but why are the ripple effects missing?

Maybe all 3 games are coded on the engine Prime 3 runs on, hence why some are missing things.

It’s not the first time a remake of a game had oddities. The remake of Super Mario Bros 3 left Mario with bare hands, and no gloves.

    It’s not THAT killer.

  25. RubiusFail says:

3 game in one DVD …
3 game in one DVD is always better..
For 2 or 3 effect missing its not that bad….
