What happens to all the new consumer goods that go unsold?

It seems impossible that all of the consumer goods that are on sale to the public at any given time are all going to be sold to an end user. What happens to all of these goods if they are not ultimately purchased by individual consumers?

well i guess they go on sale, and if they still arent sold they get distributed to less densely popluated areas and less well-off countries i guess.

Then they get send to other countries. I mean stuff that’s sold in US now as the latest season, gets release at a later date at other countries. Sometimes it could be as far as a year after. So the stock itself is distributed around.

Other stuff gets recycled and regenerated as new products, I guess :D

You’re completely right. The goods are given to the III-rd world countries as donations or for homeless people, or for animal farms as nutrition additive or finally if no one from this categories can use them, the stores throw them away to garbage or return them to the manufactures as recycled material

I know two good examples. First for food. Kroger’s, Publix and most large grocery stores just simply throw food away. You can see it the trash dumpsters behind the store.

Second, clothing. All those T shirts, hats, etc the NFL had made up for the Bears to win the Super Bowl, will be sold to people in Africa. This story was on the national news.
