They started to see the ratings drop. They tried a few tune-up type things to kick start it again, it didn't work out. The point is not to Fall in ratings. Ratings Drop, Advertisers stop Advertising, the Channel goes under. Staying even for too long isn't good either, indicates the "Shows" are starting to get "cold".
